Literally obsessed with Everlane's utility barrel pant in the jean and non-jean version--I wear almost nothing else (it's really becoming a problem). they are high-waisted and run true-to-size (I'm 5'4", 135ish and comfortably wear a 27) and are SO easy to dress up or down, depending on the occasion--they look as great with nice flats as they do with sneakers, heels, or sandals!! I have them in bone and in new blue. https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-utility-barrel-jean-new-blue
Yes, I LIVE in the non-jean version. they're so versatile and so comfy. have in black, navy, dark moss, and rosewood (fyi, rosewood reads more brown in real life). highly recommend 100%. guess I'll need to try to jean version now!! ;)
I was JUST looking at these. It's always so hard to tell from an image on my computer and I just can't motivate myself to drive aaaalll the way to their store in Venice (lol) I'm so glad to have a real life recommendation!
Thanks Christina! Let me know how it goes. I tend to get carried away with fall shopping so it’s been helpful to write down these little rules and guidelines in my Notes app to reeeeeel things in a little, ha.
Ha! It's like you read my mind - I was *just* searching "dark academia style" on Pinterest for some inspiration. I like that it leans into what I talk about a bit in this post - classic pieces with accessories that can help elevate or lend some personality.
I live in Austin, Texas. So no fall clothes yet--just summer clothes in fall colors. :o) I bought 4 pairs of Old Navy's "playa" pants to take me through fall.
I read "The Good Girl's Guide to Murder" this spring and was thrilled to see it was a series on Netflix. I loved it. I agree with the slightly cozy vibes--they pulled it off.
Hah - that's understandable for Austin! And I can't believe I missed the boat on the book - googling the author now to see if they have any others that might be a good read.
I’ve been on the hunt for a cozy TV rec, will check this out! Also, love the outfit ideas and the thoughtful approach you’re taking to your fall wardrobe!
Thanks for the shoutout, Alisha!! I’m so glad you picked up COLORED TELEVISION. I think you’ll love it. And thanks for the outfit inspo! I am ready for fall fashion in spite of (because of??) the 90 degree weather in Denver. Yuck!
No matter how hard I try, I cannot stop buying Olive green. Every time I see something I like, I find myself buying it in green. So my fall style playbook is finding a nice, cozy way to mix these in with warm neutrals - browns, pumpkin orange, denim and I just got my first pair of wide leg khaki trouser pants. We're a no dress code/casual dress kind of office, so my priority number 1 is comfort followed by feeling a little more put together than just a t-shirt and jeans.
Oh! And since you wrote about it last week, I called my mom and she shipped me her LL Bean Field Coat from the 90s. I love shopping my mom's closet for actual vintage because she never gets rid of anything!

You're the second person to recommend these! Thanks.

Rosewood is next on my list!! I’ll probably eventually get the black as well.

Feeling so inspired by these outfits, Alisha!!! I love your plan for fall - trying to take a similar approach!!!!

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is also an excellent book series! I think it’s actually YA, but I loved it!
Bookmarking this now! Thanks.
I just started it! It seems like such a cozy world to dive into. Maybe even some colorful, British, cast of characters, Sex Education vibes?
I've started watching it as well and it has thrillingly hooked me in to the small English town and quirky cast of lovely characters!
This is a past trend…but I really want to go for the dark academia vibe this fall. 🍁 📚

Love the snakeskin flats! Just the ‘interesting’ touch a more basic outfit needs.

Loving look #3!! That outfit makes you pop but also still looks effortless!!
Thank you! That’s the one I was the least sure about (only because I don’t get that “dressed up” too often) but I’m glad it worked out.

It’s a really cute show, despite the grisly set up!
I’m hoping to read Good Girls Guide before I watch but it sounds so cute and perfect for summer to fall transition.
The books are great!!
Good idea - that was my original plan but it immediately sucked me in, ha! It’s very cozy.
It was perfect for post Olympics! I, too, could not escape being sucked in. I bet the book is great!
This was great!!! My sign to get a pair of loose utility pants
i'm into the wider legs and the criss cross animal flats are super fun
thanks Sarah! yes I love the criss-cross design too, I hadn’t seen that before.

Oooo...Fall is my favorite season and clothing is one of the many reasons (apple picking, apple cider... sign me up!) 🍎
Loved the pants suggestions, how to accessorize and the photos to see how combinations and fits look in real life! Also living the cargo come back with a more fitted design; Bought these for transition to autumn:: https://www.gapfactory.com/browse/product.do?pid=885204001&cid=1092843&pcid=1092843&vid=1#pdp-page-content
They’re a far cry from jeans, but I have two pairs of Vuori’s Villa wideleg pants and I love them! They’re a great lightweight material that seems to never wrinkle, and also have an elastic waist. I’ve been wearing them with a textured crop and a loose, open buttoned up shirt: https://vuoriclothing.com/products/womens-villa-wideleg-black?queryId=d53fddb63c6e9ee1af62b03c6729aa2d&index=us_products
Lady Diana May is the BLUEPRINT. I love her style
One of my absolute favorite follows.

Thanks for sharing - and I *love* that you got a hold of her 90's LL Bean! I imagine it's even better quality that the ones they have now...
Party of two for olive green. That and leopard are my two favorite not-neutral neutrals!
