It's so fun to see what everyone's definition of "escapist" is via your recs! Keep 'em coming!

If you haven’t read God of the Woods or Wedding People, you’re sorely missing out. Those books scoop you up and swallow you whole!!

I recommend Tom Lake by Ann Patchett as a great summer book. I've not yet been to Michigan, but reading this made me long for a summer vacation in Michigan, and this month I will finally get one! Lakes, cherry trees, a theater camp/festival...sign me up.

I just finished this - a delectable summer read!

If anyone hasn’t read The Rachel Incident yet, it is perfection. Not particularly summery but engrossing yet literary.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is an interesting, transportive summer read. I read it on the beach last week and had a blast!

There are so many great recs in this thread! My ✨top✨picks for summer reads are The Husbands, One-Star Romance, and The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. (I know, witches! Summer! But IMHO the latter gives cozy summer vibes > spooky Halloween vibes.)

I may be basic, but I'm loving Abby Jimenez's books, currently on Yours Truly!

Love all her books - especially her newest one!

LOVE The Cazalet Chronicles and Still Life. Another fun book set in London is The Liar's Dictionary by Eley Williams. Great for language lovers, featuring dual timelines, and a bit of mystery. On a very different note, can recommend Deborah Harkness's All Souls trilogy to fans of Sarah Maas's ACOTAR series.

I loved THE LIAR’S DICTIONARY! I hope more people pick that up!

Jo Piazza’s The Sicilian Inheritance. Love, mystery, and more!

I second several choices below - The Husbands, The Wedding People - and would also add in that my romance author of choice this summer is Kate Clayborn. I started with "The Other Side of Disappearing," and have read several others. They have a bit more character development than other romances but are still breezy in their own right.

I have two small children so I don’t get much precious sleep and nonetheless stayed up until FOUR AM reading Copper Script

Alisha Ramos's avatar

That is a very strong rec!

I just finished The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman (author of the Magicians). A heroic and engrossing story set in Arthurian times full of knights with more diverse background, faerie magic, quests, and moral conundrums between Christianity and pagan gods!

Bumping this to the top of my list! I loved the Magicians

Oh I adored this book and agree it would be a fantastic summer read!

The Wedding People has been my go-to book rec and I think it's great for summer

My top rec is One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune because it has it all - total summer vibes, a gorgeous setting, and relatable characters!

The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim is a lovely, delightful, peaceful novel set in Italy. The premise is four English women who don't really know each other decide to rent a house in Italy for the month of April to get away from the rainy British weather. The characters are so charming and it truly transports you to sunny Italy.
