Good morning, and happy Friday from a snowy and freezing week here in D.C. 🥶Given these arctic temps, I thought it would be helpful to dedicate today’s issue to all the things keeping us warm during this season of staying [mostly] indoors.
Today’s issue includes…
My boring-but-it-works WFH uniform
A simple desk-friendly hack for keeping warm
The inexpensive tee I’m layering under everything this winter
A smart take on hyperconsumerism
My take on the “bookshelf wealth” trend
Two book adaptations I’m excited to stream soon

Just a few quick ones this week…
🍲 Cooking with shortcuts: Stating the obvious, but chili recipes are great when it’s both cold and I have zero time to cook. This week, I made turkey chili (this is the recipe I riffed from, but I think you can really use any chili recipe...) in the Instant Pot for a faster cook time and bought corn muffins from the store instead of making cornbread.
🛋 Settling on a comfy WFH uniform: You can find me in a version of this outfit every day. It’s basic and a step above sweatpants, but it works: a white tee, a cardigan that covers my butt [here’s a less pricey version], leggings, and a pile of necklaces. Any day I’m not wearing a sweatshirt in January is a triumph in my book, even if that means leggings.
🎼 A good work playlist: I’m outing myself as a Tumblr girly, but have you ever listened to the Marie Antoinette soundtrack all the way through? It’s a great work companion, featuring a solid and eclectic mix of bouncy rock and soft piano ballads.
✍️ Attempting to low-stakes journal: My brain feels like mush these days (thank you, sleepless nights), but I still want to capture the memories of these early motherhood days that seem to rush by so quickly. I learned about five-year journals through
, finally bit the bullet, and bought one this week. I love that there’s just enough space for a few lines and that I’ll be able to compare my days across years.📘 Reading: One Day by David Nicholls, in prep for its Netflix adaptation, which premieres on February 8th.
A roundup of items I’m leaning on this winter to keep me cozy. Plus, a few reader recommendations.
