Love this! Having a 3.5 year old, I either live in shorts or dresses with thigh society shorts under them during the summer in order to actually do life.
If you’re looking for a grain-free salad, I often mix corn, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and avocado with a lime juice vinaigrette and toss in some feta during the summer. People always eat it up.
Just here to say I bought the thigh society shorts for a eurotrip I went on a few summers ago and am still JUST as obsessed today with them as I was then. THEY ARE AMAZING !!
The freaking blazer. I feel so seen. As someone who very recently was stain removing little strawberry fingerprints out of white jeans, I appreciate this exploration of functional style so much.
I’m so glad it resonated! To keep things real though, I have to confess that my delulu self bought a brown linen blazer last week. For what? Who knows.
The new TJR book looks so good! I’m committed to reading the books I’ve already purchased so far this year (I have a lot of good ones in the line-up, like Wild Dark Shore which I’m currently reading!) but then I can’t wait to buy it. I feel you on the outfits thing, too. I don’t have a child, but I often prioritize comfort and “ready for anything” outfits a little more than what I see online. I try to take the vibe or pick one thing I liked about an outfit I saw and make it my own.
Matthew, I forgot his last name, Your Barefoot Neighbor, (on socials) did a sub sandwich/grinder pasta salad post the other day that he posted to Pepper the App. Omg it sounds SO GOOD! I want to make it this week cause it sounds like I could just eat it in one go. Looks like it would get devoured at a gathering too.
Also, Cowboy Caviar is a pretty big hit with a crowd these days. Corn, beans, peppers, onion, some spices, lime juice, cilantro. Mix and chill. Serve with tortilla chips!
This style post is a breath of fresh air. My toddler life also is requiring a style change! I used to live for the tightest tops and pants in insane fabrics that required handwashing. Now all I want is something that I can throw in the wash with the ten billion toddler socks. Especially now that it's summer and we are outside and at splash pads every week. Thanks for sharing!
(And "yay" for my recommendation making the newsletter!)
But my favorite is my friend Katie’s, she roasts peaches or nectarines with feta, salt, and pepper until the peaches are slightly soft and tops it with slivered herbs, basil or mint. No balsamic! You don’t want to smother the peaches.
I use my Dorsey petite Bessette tennis necklace to fancy up my outfits, I never take it off. It’s strong enough to hold up to my daughter yanking with all her strength. Studs CZ Huggies to match. In summer I live in white H&M drymove tennis skirts or white plush shorts with different white button downs and tanks and tees (the drymove crop is also perfect). I just bleach everything! It’s held up like a dream. My stuff I’ve bought in a color is all stained from two kids using me as a napkin, so I keep returning to summer white.
Super easy and I used lemon infused vinegar and it’s. A hit. Or the same website has a tortellini Greek pasta salad also always a hit (or the quinoa version I love as well)

Farro salads are my favorite to bring places if you’re not worried about gluten. This one is a great one: https://www.howsweeteats.com/2020/08/zucchini-farro-salad/

These both sound good, but that last one sounds so easy and delicious.
Also the thigh society shorts idea is genius...

The grain-free combo is also good with a bit of cilantro!
Those book stickers blew my mind!
Right?? It's genius...
Ditto!
I adore this recipe that is definitely a loose interpretation of a salad and is incredibly delicious https://smittenkitchen.com/2019/07/corn-salad-with-chile-and-lime/
"a loose interpretation of a salad" I am bought in already haha. Thanks for sharing this looks so good. Love everything Deb.
She can do no wrong in my eyes!
I’ll point out that this article is perfect for perimenopausal women too (at least this one)! We want easy dressing.
Oh such a good point. Thanks Dina!
I love to recreate Mendocino Farm's curry cauliflower couscous for bbqs!! https://www.mendocinofarms.com/mendos-signature-curried-couscous-recipe/

Re: salads - I love this for summer, for ever. Endlessly riffable. Use whatever berries or stone fruit is in season! Use dried fruit in the winter! Use whatever greens look good! The dressing is 👌🏼 https://www.sproutedkitchen.com/home/2018/6/12/cherry-lentil-baby-kale-salad

Love lentils in a salad! Ty for the recipe!!

Made this corn salad last weekend and it’s incredible! https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1020403-grilled-corn-and-avocado-salad-with-feta-dressing

How are you liking Wild Dark Shore? It got so much buzz, it's definitely in the mix for my summer reading list.
And interpreting a look you like through your own clothes and closet is one of my favorite things. Might be a good topic for a future letter...!
LOVED Wild Dark Shore. I'm usually not much of a literary fiction person, but wow, it's really beautiful.

Fruit, not veggies, but strawberries in balsamic is my favorite and always blows everyone’s minds with how good it is! I use these ratios and also add some fresh basil 😋 https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/86390/strawberries-with-balsamic-vinegar/
